We have been given a unique location, group of people and resources to play our part as a church in the overarching story of God's relationship with His creation. Our Purpose and Vision help to give us clarity and unity as a church.

Our Purpose:

Our goal is to Glorify God. That is the reason Bethany exists.

Our Vision Statement:

"To see people to become everything that Christ created them to be through Evangelism, Edification, and Involvement." (Eph. 2:10; 4:11-16, 1 Cor. 12, 2 Tim. 4:1-5, Col. 4:2-6)

Vision Explanation:

Our vision can be summed up in three values which give us identity; Evangelism, Edification, and Involvement.

Evangelism: Allowing people to see who they are and how God can change that view. (2 Timothy 4:1-5, Colossians 4:2-6)
Edification: Building up the Body of Christ into a mature body. (Ephesians 4:11-16)
Involvement: Understanding that we are made with purpose and each of us has spiritual gifts given by God to be used in the Body of Christ to accomplish the goal of glorifying Him. (1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 2:10)

Need for Vision:

We see in scripture examples of people with vision and a goal. In fact, Jesus gave His church one great mission (Matthew 28:18-19, Mark 16:15-16, Acts 1:8) in order to fulfill the vision that John catches a glimpse of in Revelation of people from all around the world worshiping God (Revelation 7:9-12). We also see in the book of Nehemiah that he led through clear vision to fulfill a purpose for God's Glory.

John R.W. Stott, an English theologian, states, "Vision begins with a holy discontent with the way things are." Nehemiah led with purpose. Jesus commissioned His church with a purpose. As we think about our role as Christians and as a church, we realize that vision is important. Bethany believes that transformation takes place both individually and as a group. We believe that the role of a church is to build up the people of the church and encourage them to be God's change agents in our culture and in our community. We seek to see people become everything that Christ created them to be for the Glory of God through Evangelism, Edification, and Involvement.
