Discussion Questions:

What are some trials that you have faced? What temptations (if any) arose within you? What did remaining steadfast look like for you?

“It’s better to trust and obey God through difficulty because of the life He offers.” Describe the life that you have been offered in Christ? How does it contrast with life apart from Christ?

What is the difference between testing on the outside and temptation on the inside? Can difficult circumstances ever justify giving in to temptation? Explain.

What are some healthy/God-given desires that people have? How can these desires go wrong?

Does giving in to temptation always result in death? How so? What about those who place their trust in Christ?

What are the four stages of temptation? How might being aware of them, help you resist temptation?

What lures do you find most appealing?  How can you protect yourself against them?

The great English Puritan theologian John Owen wrote, “When someone sets his affections upon the cross and the love of Christ, he crucifies the world as a dead and undesirable thing. The baits of sin lose their attraction and disappear. Fill your affections with the cross of Christ and you will find no room for sin.” In what way does growing in your affections and admiration of Christ aid in the fight against temptation? How can you come to value Christ more?

Spend some time making a list of how God has been good to you. How can you intentionally remind yourself of these things each day?
