Have you experienced failure in your life? How did it make you feel? Were you able to get past it? How? Why is the application of the gospel of Jesus Christ crucial for those who have already trusted in him for salvation?

Are there people who have failed you that you still struggle to forgive? How does the grace that God has shown you need to be applied?

How should we understand our failures in light of God’s sovereignty?

In what way was John’s baptism a call back to the wilderness? How might time in the wilderness help prepare people to embrace the gospel of Jesus?

When you find yourself confronted with personal failure, does it lead you closer or further away from Jesus? Explain.

How does God sometimes use the difficult seasons of life to prepare us for future ministry? 

How did Jesus endure his 40 days in the wilderness? What can you learn from him that might help you walk through the wilderness seasons of your life?
