Discussion Questions:

Why did Jesus describe the Syrophoenician woman as having great faith (Matt. 15:28)? What did her great faith look like?

Why might the woman’s great faith have been unexpected in the eyes of Jesus’ disciples? Who are the people in your life that you would consider unlikely candidates for God to do a transforming work?

Jesus used peculiar methods to communicate his intentions to the deaf man. In what way does this parallel what God must do for a sinner to understand his word? What does it say about God’s compassion for the spiritually deaf?

How does the satisfaction of the Gentile crowd point to the reality that Jesus is the “bread of life” (John 6:35)? How is the bread that Christ offers superior to physical food?

Who are the neighbors in your life? Are you praying for them? Are you looking for opportunities to show Christ to them? How might you better prepare yourself to share the hope that you have with them?
