Discussion Questions:

Read: Mark 10:13-31

What does the rich man’s eagerness to learn what he had to do to be saved say about those who have seemingly good intentions? Is it enough to want to be saved or go to heaven?

How did Jesus reveal to the rich man that he did not actually have a perfect commandment-keeping track record? Can anyone be saved by keeping God’s law? What are the law’s real purposes? How does the law point us to our need for Christ?

Jesus said that only God is good. Why is that important for us to understand? If only God is good, what does that say about us?

Why do you think that the disciples did not want people to bring little children to Jesus? Compare and contrast the children to the rich man.

What did Jesus mean when he said that “whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it” (Mark 10:15)?

What do Titus 3:5-6 and Ephesians 2:8-9 have to do with our study in Mark 10:13-31? When Jesus told the rich man to sell everything that he had, was he suggesting that this man could actually earn his way to heaven? Explain.

What does it mean to lose everything for the sake of Christ? What do those who have lost everything for the sake of Christ have to gain?
