Discussion Guide

Review and discuss this week’s Core Truth with your group.

Core Truth #22

Q: Why must the Redeemer be truly human?

A: That in human nature he might on our behalf perfectly obey the whole law and suffer the punishment for human sin; and also that he might sympathize with our weaknesses.

Read 1 Peter 2:11-12 as a group.

What do you think Peter means when he refers to Christians as “sojourners and exiles?” Does that apply to you? Explain.

What are the “passions of the flesh” that Peter refers to in verse 11? In what way do they wage war against a Christian’s soul?

How does God get glory as Christians fight hard against the internal passions of the flesh?

Read verse 12 again. How do Christians fight hard to bring God glory in the way they conduct themselves before non-believers?

What does it look like to keep your conduct honorable? Does that mean that Christians are to seek the approval of non-believers? Explain.

How does the way that you conduct yourself in public impact your gospel witness?

What is “the day of visitation?” Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Explain.
