DISCUSSION GUIDES

Community Groups:

Read Acts 8:25-40 as a group.

Why might it have been challenging for Philip to obey the orders from the angel of the Lord? Have there been times in your life where it was similarly challenging for you to obediently respond to the call of God? Share it with your group.

Why might the Ethiopian in this passage been seen as an unlikely candidate to come to faith in Christ?

What evidence is there of God orchestrating events that lead to the Ethiopian’s salvation? Is there evidence of God sovereignly working in a similar way in your life? Explain.

Read 2 Timothy 2:20-21. In what way was Philip prepared for God to work through him? How are you preparing yourself to be a vessel fit for your Master’s use?

What was the role of Scripture in leading the Ethiopian to faith in Christ?Read Romans 10:13-17. Why is it crucial for Christ’s witnesses to be able to use the Bible in leading people to faith in him? What verses would you direct someone to learn of who Jesus is and how they might be saved through faith in him?

What are the similarities and differences between Simon (Acts 8:9-24) and the Ethiopian? How did the Ethiopian get salvation right and Simon get it wrong?

Family Time (For dads, moms and kids):

Who is Jesus?

What did he do to save you and me? What verses tell us about that?

Read Acts 8:25-40. How did God prepare the way for the Ethiopian to trust in Jesus?

Are you trusting in Jesus? How do you know?

Pray together.
