Discussion Questions:

What are some ways that people have experienced letdown recently?

Is there anything wrong with feeling letdown?

Read Mark 14:43-72 as a group.

How might the disciples have experienced letdown in this passage?

In what way does Peter’s behavior change between what happens in the garden and what happens in the courtyard of the high priest?  How do you explain that change?

Explain how what the disciples may have considered to be a letdown was actually victory for Jesus?

How did Jesus mission differ from what the disciples may have been expecting?

Have you ever had your plans, hopes or dreams disrupted only to find out that God had a better plan? Explain.

In what ways might Christians today tend to get sidetracked from placing all of their hope in God’s unfolding plan? How might Christians be tempted to have expectations for the future that do not line up with God’s plan?

Jesus prayed in the garden, “yet not what I will, but what you will.” Spend time praying in that way with your group. Be sure to praise God for his great and glorious plan.
